Another impressive gaming machine from ACER with the VX 15. The price is a little higher, but it is a clear gaming beast. It seems like ACER likes to put in high quality internal hardware and cut corners when it comes to the build quality of the case and other outer components. However, if you are going take good care of your machine, this laptop is exactly what you want.
Performance in Games
We are going to see a harmonious hardware construction with the Acer Aspire VX 15. The machine kicks things off with a 7th Generation Core i7 processor, and the rest of the components help bring out the sheer power of this processor.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti with 4 GB GDDR5 VRAM is exactly the type of GPU you want to pair with the i7 processor above, and the 4GB of dedicated RAM brings out the best graphics any game can produce.
16GB DDR4 is a standard in gaming machines. I am yet to find 16 GB paired with the rest of this hardware for such an affordbale price – this is a steal!
This machine comes with a 256 SSD hard drive, but Acer is open to the idea that some gamers may want an HDD. So, they have made it easy to adapt one into it. Unfortunately, you have to call in to Acer to get the adapter kit for this model. It’s not a simple open and plug situation.

Up to 6 hrs Six hours is a great battery life for a laptop. In my experience these numbers tend to be exaggerated a bit. I wouldn’t plan on gaming six hours straight without charging. Still, this is average for a laptop so we can’t complain.
Red backlit standard keyboard. No programmable keys, but the WASD keys are outlined and easier to find.
15 inch 1080p screen is what we are looking for in this machine. It doesn’t have the best anti-glare screen, but in other models we are seeing that cheaper anti-glare screens are simply dulling the colors of the games we love.
Connection and Ports
The only downside on this laptop is that the 1 3.5MM combo jack may play havoc with those of you that don’t use the combo headset. Generally gaming headsets will need a dedicated mic input. This may be a deal breaker for some of you.
256GB SSD is a bit smaller than we want to see in a gaming beast, but to get and SSD at all in machine in this price range is a win. If you plan on downloading every game on Steam, you may need to bump up your price range a bit. But, for a casual gamer this will be fine.
Acer TrueHarmony & Dolby Audio Premium might be Acer’s way of making up for the lack of a dedicated mic input. You don’t need a headset with the way these speakers sound. Still, if you like to game with a headset, maybe this laptop isn’t for you.

One of the quitter gaming laptops. Especially considering the dual fan construction. However, adding an HDD to this, which I don’t recommend, will make it a bit noisier.
Dual fan cooling system does its job. As a casual gamer, you probably won’t notice a difference. But for someone that plans to game on this laptop for long periods at a time, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the cooling apparatus.
5.5 lbs is a bit heavy for a laptop. If you’re planning on using it for everyday use such as work or school, simply be ready to have a lot of weight in your bag. But, it is no reason not to purchase the laptop. Overall still a good value.

This machine is great! The hardware is exactly what we want to see in a gaming beast, yet Acer was able to cut all the right corners to give value to someone looking for a gaming machine to take on the road with them.
Unlike some of the other machines reviewed on here, I do not recommend this computer to anyone that is looking to buy a machine for any other reason than gaming. Some gaming machines double nicely as video/audio editing machines. This one, however, has gone very deep down the gaming rabbit hole and there is better value if you are not a serious gamer.
