N550 is not designed as a gaming laptop, but it is designed as a multimedia laptop, but it can do as well as many laptops branded gaming laptops. ASUS N550JX supports a FHD 15.6 inch IPS touchscreen display with Intel core i7 processor and NVIDIA GTX950 for graphics. Which is a good set of specifications for a laptop that is priced below 1000$.

PERFORMANCE IN GAMES

GPU

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M with 2GB GDDR3 VRAM is provided as the graphics processor, which is adequate for gaming at medium settings. However, the laptop does seem to have a weaker graphics processor when compared to other laptops that cost around $1000, the competition have a GTX960 (example- ASUS ROG GL 551 JW or Acer v15 Nitro).

CPU

The laptop is fitted with an Intel Core i7-4720HQ 2.6GHz (Turbo up to 3.6GHz). A powerful processor which is in the present a standard in gaming laptops

RAM

The laptop is provided with 8GB DDR3 RAM but is upgradeable to 16 GB as it supports two 8 GB sticks.

N550 is not designed as a gaming laptop, but as multimedia laptop, but with above specks it can perform quite well, it can be compared to gaming laptops in this price range. But unless you need touchscreen for pure gaming experience a laptop with a better graphics processor is recommended.

The laptop supports a 15.6 inch Full HD (1920X1080) IPS display with touch screen capabilities. The displays colour reproduction seems to be good, texts turn out to be sharp with deep blacks and saturated. Overall a good display for the price range.

Audio

The audio of this laptop was created in cooperation with the Danish company, Bang &Olufsen, which has operated on the market since 1925. The company specializes in the production of top-quality sound systems for audiophiles.

The N550JK with a Bang &Olufsen quad-speaker array producing theater-like surround sound. Thanks to excellent built-in Laptop, speakers, high and midrange sounds are very clear. And thanks to the external subwoofers included in a box, basses are very deep and the whole sound that N550JK emits is a pure, natural, and excellent.

The whole thing can play really loud; In terms of sound quality is one the best laptop I tested.

Connection and Ports

For connections ASUS N550JK has Integrated 802 .11b Wi-Fi, built-in Bluetooth v4.0 and 10/100/1000 RJ45 LAN port which you will find on the left side.

When it comes to ports N550JK offers on the left side: power subwoofer jack, LAN, HDMI, mini DisplayPort, two USB 3.0 and audio jack

On the right side: the SD-card slot, third USB 3.0, the built-in Blu-ray, and near the rear edge Kensington cable-locking slot.

Keyboard

With the laptop you get a keyboard with a numeric keypad. The keyboard is backlit with adjustable brightness settings. The track pad is provided in a silver finish with separate buttons for the left and right. The device does have a backlit keyboard which adds to the plus points.

Beautiful looking laptop with sufficient power to do the daily task and casual gaming. A laptop worth considering under 1000$.

If you want or need a good gaming laptop with touchscreen and a fantastic theater-like surround-sound, then ASUS N550JK DS71T is good choice. Laptops that are more powerful are in in this price range, for example, acer v15 Nitro or ASUS ROG GL551 but this is only laptop suitable for gaming with touchscreen under 1000.
